Zuhair Murad Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Fashion

The first response one has to seeing theZuhair Murad fall/winter 2015-2016 collection is a look of awe, followed by a pretty exuberant exclamation to all who would hear that you are head over heels in love with the looks portrayed. There is no way to escape, not from the magical designs that utterly captivate an individual. But that is the Lebanese charm, for we have seen those incredible designers from Beirut produce one magnificent collection after another, taking our breaths away with each piece showcased. Most of the collection is in black and white, following the year’s trends and really focusing on those stark contrasts that are altogether too appealing when translated into a fashionable art form. The black and white color scheme certainly is not the only reference to the latest trends either, as Murad brings our attention to the legs peek out from under high slits that creep up to the tops of the thighs, particularly on those wedding style gowns that we so dearly covet.

Zuhair Murad Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

The lacework we find within the Zuhair Murad fall/winter 2015-2016 collection requires a paragraph unto itself as the incredibly talented designer weaves perfect silhouetted with the fabric, using it in the stead of sleeves to create a cape like ideal, allowing it to define the whole of the dresses themselves by acting as a translucent mesh behind which the beauty of the female body is worshiped in earnest; the lace is used on flared pants as well paired with a shiny vest like top that wraps around the body and leaves us admiring the open chest revealed through a plunging V neckline that is very much one of the many trends that have been rocking the runway from the spring/summer seasons down to the fall and winter. The lace is also turned into embroidered tops with flared sleeves, evening gowns with such perfect tailoring that we are unable to wrest our eyes from them, and perfect capes that have black sequin paillettes and stitched embroidered all the way through, sitting beautifully on the dress that leaves little to the imagination with its gauzy tulle material.

Zuhair Murad enjoys dressing up the stars that grace the red carpet and seems to create the perfect look that would be documented as the best dresses seen at the Oscars, the Grammy’s and all the different awards shows that seem to be an ongoing thing for the United States and the United Kingdom. It appears as if the movie Frozen has also captured his creative mind as snowflakes and ice crystals and turned into a perfectly white gown with a lovely train and plunging neckline, the waist and sides embroidered in the frosted fashion.

Tulle and satin, lace and tafetta; we see the gowns and the zigzag embroidered top, the high waist stretch trousers with the flared ends and the use of sequins all over the place make for an incredibly arresting collection. The colors may center around black and white, but we also have royal blue, and gentle teal, even a touch of purple that we can clearly see hitting the red carpet soon enough. The skirts of the dresses have hems that are mini level from time to time, a few pieces at midi and most coming down to the floor length in an attempt to have as many evening gowns available as possible. Beautiful collection!

Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Fashion

Acne Studios has brought to the Paris Fashion Week catwalk a rather intriguing collection that can neither be considered the best nor the worst that we have seen on that runway in the last few days. Of course, of the 30 pieces put on display in the Acne Studios fall/winter 2015-2016 collection for our viewing pleasure, it would be the one with the nearly bare chest that would catch our attention since we simply cannot understand when and where one could go out wearing such garments without being arrested for public indecency. There are a few pieces we like though and among some of the rather unusually cut and tailored designs, they truly stand out as unique. This includes the ensemble with the sweet cropped top with the sleeveless cut paired with the tight high waist legging style pants that somehow remind us of the jeggings that were in style but two or three years ago. The funky mushroom hat and the pure red lips complete the look nicely while cowboy boots may have been a better choice than the black simple open-toe sandals that the model has been given. The fabric pulls at the crotch of the size 2 model though, so we find it hard to imagine how it would look on our size 8 bodies.

Acne Studios Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Acne Studios is a Swedish fashion house that was founded in 1997 by Jonny Johansson, the designer who works as the company’s creative director to this day and delivers to us both men’s and women’s ready to wear fashions, footwear, accessories, as well as denim. The company has gained immense popularity and is available for purchase in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Antwerp and Tokyo. At the moment, Acne Studios presents its spring/summer and fall/winter collections, appearing twice a year on the Paris Fashion Week runway. It also presents the women’s resort and pre-fall collections in New York. For Acne Studios, it is all about the quality of the pieces and the longer the life of a single garment, the better for the company it appears. In 2014, their goal was to have 20 percent of their fabrics used for their constant products made of organic cotton and other environmentally stable materials.

The Acne Studios pieces seem to really focus on tight materials around the legs, accentuating their length and really showing off their width, while we find ourselves enthralled with the double breasted midi dress in navy and magazine page designs, cinched at the waist with a silver wraparound belt and the look complete with large dark glasses, a lovely beret, dark red lips and mottled beige and camel half boots up to mid-calf. Throughout the Acne Studios fall/winter 2015-2016 collection we see lots of tight pants with slits at the inside hem, including in denim and leather, while a few pieces show off the nipples proudly, others have oversized coats, while others still include symmetrical skirt hems and slits all over the place, generally placed smack in the center as the season’s trends dictate. It may not be the best collection out there, but it certainly is not the worst either, falling somewhere in between with lots of room for improvement. We expect something amazing to be handed to us come the spring/summer 2016 collection time and we cannot wait to see how Acne Studios turns this around!

Zadig & Voltaire Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Fashion

After a colorful sporty chic spring collection, French brand Zadig & Voltaire goes back to its rock ‘n’ roll roots enchanting the world with the brand-new Zadig & Voltairefall/winter 2015-2016 collection that has just rocked Paris Fashion Week. Titled Midnight Vagabond, the new collection also marks a new beginning, as Paulo Melim Andersson has joined the team to co-design the womenswear and accessories along with the brand’s creative director Cecilia Bönström. Saying that they have done an amazing job would mean saying nothing, as the entire 33 looks long collection wins our admiration from the very first sight with its relaxed and utterly wearable designs that come drenched in boldness, glamour and rock attitude. From the materials and the color palette used to the tiny details and the smart layering techniques, the Zadig & Voltaire fall 2015 rtw collection has lots of aspects to become your favorite source of inspiration for getting your wardrobe fall ready come the cold months.

Zadig & Voltaire Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Saying rock, we of course mean an abundance of black, leather and studs, which have got unique interpretations in the Zadig & Voltaire fall collection. Solid black is actually the protagonist color throughout the collection, however, we are also treated to splashes of yellow, white, cream, blue, khaki, brown and gray alongside the tiny motifs of Marsala wine acting as contrasting accents mainly appearing either on the footwear or the handbags. We love the way different styles and fabrics have been combined in single looks, while zips, studs and pretty stars galore act as final brushstrokes for perfecting the looks and injecting the right dose of the rock ‘n’ roll spin to them. We see lots of short lengths putting the focus on the bare legs of the models, and this is exactly the way the show kicked off bringing a super-mini studded skirt with a tiny slit on one of the legs, which is teamed with a black mesh knit sweater and a back leather belt. This is bold, glam and rock and it’s designed for the self-confident Zadig & Voltaire girl, who needs no flashing colors or too many details for standing out in the crowd.

We see classic menswear inspired motifs as well, like the pinstripe cropped jumpsuit that is again embellished with studs and is worn with a biker leather jacket to keep the mood of the collection. And although rock ‘n’ roll is the primary focus of the entire line-up, we also discover subtle Seventies inspirations exercised through the brown suedes, as well as romantic dresses featuring delicate fabrics, pretty embroidery and prints for those boho-chic girly girls, looking for lovely alternatives to all those black leather designs. There are even soft lingerie-style inspirations brought to life through the parade of slip-dresses and tops utilizing the same lightweight fabrics and interesting asymmetric hemlines. We have leather and we have fur galore, coming as cozy and chic outerwear options and using colors ranging from the classic whites and browns to psychedelic color-blocked options in much subdued hues. And since winter is about a warm and comfy style, the Zadig & Voltaire fall/winter 2015-2016 collection also offers stylish knitting from scarfs and sweaters to casual sweater-dresses with holes. Add tweeds and pinstripe pantsuits with the blazer featuring Eighties squared shoulders and you get a super-diverse and functional collection ready to dress you creatively for different occasions.

Equally stunning is the accessory selection of the collection, bringing oversized over-the-shoulder bags and pointy-toe metallic python leather Mod booties, quilted felt hats with frayed edges and feathers, but also big fluffy fur gloves that seem to be shaping a whole new trend for the fall to come. While the hair of the models is kept loose and casual with a deep center part, the makeup is natural with the accent placed on the black eyeliner smudged on the lower lash line. Wholly, it was a beautiful, energizing and cool show that taught us many a style lesson for looking easy breezy lemon squeezy this fall!

Balmain Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Fashion

Opulent, glamorous, breathtakingly beautiful and feminine… Olivier Rousteing once again captured our hearts with his chic Balmain fall/winter 2015-2016 collection that has just been triumphantly showcased on the runway at Paris Fashion Week. Being the logical continuation of the brand’s pre-fall lineup we discovered not that long ago, this ready-to-wear collection brings a burst of beautiful autumnal shades to the scene and flowing silhouettes mixing Seventies with Eighties in the most glamorous way possible. While the whole world focused on the star-studded front row with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, a.k.a. the brand’s faces for their menswear spring 2015 campaign, taking center stage during the show with Kim debuting her brand-new platinum hair color, we couldn’t take our eyes off Alessandra Ambrosio, who opened the show donning a pleated floor-length jumpsuit in the warm mustard color and with sexy cut-outs. The entire #BalmainArmy rocked the stage today in Paris with Adriana Lima, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, Joan Smalls and Jourdan Dunn all looking ravishing in an array of jaw-dropping Balmain designs that apparently have used Oliver’s close friend Kim Kardashian as the muse.

Balmain Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Like the music to which the show kicked off, the entire Balmain fall/winter 2015-2016 collection was a remix of the sexy and the classy, the elegant and the sporty, the monochrome with the hot color blocking touches. As a rule, we were treated to a parade of party-ready glamorous designs utilizing lots of sheer lace used for the brightly colored skin-tight long-sleeved bodysuits and mini skirts, strong shoulders bringing the ‘80s references first spotted at London Fashion Week for this fall, as well as a rich Eighties color palette, lots of pleats, beaded fringe and sensual satin giving movement and freshness to those maxi designs. It’s really interesting to see some designers breaking from the season’s trending Sixties and Seventies styles and bringing variety to the scene experimenting with the Eighties instead. No wonder, Olivier Rousteing did it skillfully, injecting loads of femme fatale attitude to his brightly colored designs.

Vintage looks bold and beautiful according to Balmain, comprising an opulent color palette of yellows, oranges, purples, turquoises, greens, blues, fuchsias and hot pinks perfectly balanced with blacks, whites and glittery motifs. We have stripes, romantic florals and abstract patterns put in a myriad of colors that look irresistible in combination with those boldly color-blocked designs. Signature Balmain wide belts in different colors, as well as plunging V-necklines, midriff-exposing cuts, one-shoulder-off designs and colorful fur enhance the drama and glamour in the looks, being used in the right proportions to complement the looks rather than become focal points themselves.

You’ll hardly see any bare legs throughout the collection, since the models either wear wide-leg billowing jumpsuits, pants and tops duos or style their mini dresses and skirts with black tights that kind of boost the sexiness in the looks, at the same time granting them with warmth. We, of course, saw amazing outerwear options and long-sleeved looks, as it’s fall after all and feeling comfy and cozy should be balanced with the gorgeousness of the pieces you don. In line with this, the collection brings amazing evening-ready looks that place the accent on the movement and colors. Wholly, it was a fierce and strong collection, one that Balmain has gotten us used to expecting and one that we’ll dream about a lot!

Manish Arora Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Fashion

We are not quite sure what was going through Manish Arora’s head when he came up with the styles that would totally change the perception one has of a fashion show. We may even be wondering which planet the Indian designer is from, for we don’t know the last time we saw owls turning into skulls that had hearts instead of eyes. What we do know that the final outfit of the 44 piece long Manish Arorafall/winter 2015-2016 collection states that winter is coming and is quite reminiscent of the “Game of Thrones” series depicting a world, in which the summers are long and the winters much, much longer. That final banner strewn across the soldier’s body makes some of the themes found in this collection a little more understandable, from the elk to the owls to the grinding spiked golden gears printed on one dress. The skulls appear throughout and we dare say that the raven appearing perched on the shoulder would have three eyes. There is even one warrior in mock chain mail whose skirt carries the emblems of different Houses that rule different parts of the world envisioned by George R. R. Martin. Now that certainly can explain why there are plastic birds and dragons perched on models’ shoulders all throughout the showing of this particular collection.

Manish Arora Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - Paris Fashion Week

Manish Arora never creates any designs that can be considered dull or mainstream. On the contrary, it appears as if the most fantastical of worlds are always his inspiration, having been so since his eponymous label’s launch in 1997, his debut on the India Fashion Week and the Hong Kong Fashion Week three years later, and definitely has been so since his first debut on the London Fashion Week runway in 2005. He is pretty much the John Galliano of India, tamely described as using a rich palette of psychedelic colors and kitsch motifs in his pieces, combining the Indian styles with the Western silhouettes. This can definitely describe the latest of his collections presented on the Paris Fashion Week runway, wherein we are thrown for a look with the incredible use of colors and textures, essentially having us feel as if we are on a drug trip throughout the whole of the show. It is almost “Alice in Wonderland” style, what with the imagines making up images themselves, the models holding skulls with roses growing from their heads and the dresses that are a little more normal perhaps, with a multitude of beautiful colors and gorgeous large floral designs.

There are so many facets to the designs presented today that it is hard to focus on one particular trend other than the fictitious world it seems to represent. We can see a touch of “The Hobbit” as well, what with the strange piercings and off headwear. When asked about it being strange or sublime, our answer will border on the former answer, despite the fact that it appears to be perfect for a comic con event. Plus, the Indian fashion pieces found amongst the HBO loving ones of the greatest series to hit television certainly add a bit of southern charm to it all, bringing the other-worldly fashions crashing down into our dimension that no longer requires chain mail and barred helmets. We are not sure that Arora has joined us in our world as well though yet…

Byblos Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Milan Fashion Week

Fashion

For many, Byblos is a magical city in Lebanon that all who venture towards the Middle East should visit at least once. The wonder of the place is remarkable. In the fashion world, however, Byblos is an Italian fashion house with incredibly good looking designs meant for both men and women. It even has an art hotel holding its namesake. The lines Byblos carried include more than just womenswear, featuring fragrances, shoes and home collections alongside the men’s and women’s apparel in ready to wear designs. It also is no wonder that we were anticipating theByblos fall/winter 2015-2016 collectionto be shown off on the Milan Fashion Weekrunway today either.

Byblos Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - Milan Fashion Week

The fashion house simply dazzled us with the optical illusions, particularly at the end, though looking at the initial knee length trench coat in a pinkish coral with the black leggings and turtleneck sweater, finished off with black leather boots, you would not even think it was possible. The sharp geometric shapes have certainly done their number on us, from the bold blue, black, white and red stripes of the second pieces to be worn out onto the runway to the purplish pink, pinkish coral, black and white A-line flared midi dress coming in a few looks later. We loved the asymmetrical black and white woven check patterning on the slip of a midi dress and the leather bow belted top, while we could not help but admire the black and white with coral inserts stripes jacket over the turtleneck fitted sweater and asymmetrical coral color blocked skirt ensemble we were treated to.

While there didn’t seem to be a large amount of focus on the trending fashion styles throughout the fall and winter collections on any of the Fashion Week runway shows around the world, there were still odes to the trends in certain pieces, such as the asymmetrical hems in the skirts and even the coatdresses, the plunging necklines that are not so plunging in these designs, and the ankle straps on the shoes that nearly all designers have added for extra feminine effect. The midi skirts are there, as well as the looser fitting pants, while we are also given a small taste of translucent materials that barely cover up the bare chest underneath. We even have the crop top with high waist belted trouser design that has us staring at the chest because of the black and white optical illusion creating along the bust.

Those optical illusions play a major role in the final batch of the outfits presented, particularly one particular piece that is just too lovely to pass by. It is a round collar midi dress with a frilled A-line skirt and a leather T-belt tied at the waist. The optical illusions change from the chest down to the skirt, starting with a checked design and moving into swirling checks that look as if we are staring through a fish eye. The ankle strapped black high heeled shoes in question definitely do much to show off the length of the legs, while the dress itself elongates the torso and looks quite demure in its styling. We have once again fallen in love with the Byblos fashion house, and that with really good reason.
